All eight planets orbiting the Sun to scale in distance. Drag to rotate, scroll to zoom, click a world to open its field notes.
Each planet moves on a real Keplerian orbit — the same elliptical mechanics Johannes Kepler described in 1609 — using orbital periods, eccentricities, and inclinations drawn from public astronomical datasets. The "Sim date" advances at whatever speed you set, so a year can pass in a few seconds.
Compressed scale squeezes the outer planets inward so all eight orbits fit on screen together, which is how most orrery models and classroom diagrams work. True Scale switches to the real relative distances — at that scale Neptune sits about 30 times farther from the Sun than Earth does, which is why it will look almost empty out there. That emptiness is itself the point: space is mostly space.
